This statue shows him with birds on his arms and shoulders, and a deer is peeking from around his back, looking up at him.
St. Francis founded the Franciscan order. He was particularly renowned for his love of nature and animals. They reminded him of God's goodness in all parts of His creation. They loved him because of his gentleness towards him.
