St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals and Catholic Action
Saint Francis is the patron saint of animals and the environment. Francis gave up his inheritance and rich lifestyle in order to become a poor beggar. He founded the Order of Friars Minor, which is alternately called the Franciscan Order. Francis had a deep love of nature and animals. He saw God in all things. Francis had an especial rule for himself and his followers: to follow the teachings of Christ.
