St. Gerard was a Redemptorist priest of the 18th century. He is venerated as the patron saint of expectant mothers because of a miracle he worked. A woman was in the midst of a difficult childbirth so she took a handkerchief which had belonged to Gerard and almost immediately her problems ceased and she had a healthy birth.
