Guided by the Holy Spirit, these canonized (officially declared) saints were placed in the Church calendar and liturgy for us to ask their help, after Mary, Jesus' mother, in going to Jesus/God. Saints know getting to heaven is a serious spiritual business and are willing to help us. We in turn imitate them.
