St. Vincent De Paul, Patron Saint of Charities and Caregivers

St. Vincent de Paul set an example of Christian charity that still inspires Christians to this day. A French priest, Vincent was a brilliant scholar. Following his capture by Muslim pirates and escape of several years later, Vincent received much responsibility and prestige in the French court. Seeing the poverty of the peasantry, Vincent devoted his life to serving the poor. He founded the Vincentians and helped found the Sisters of Charity; both organizations were to help the less fortunate. Today, many parishes and cities have St. Vincent de Paul Organizations, which help the needy under his patronage.
